Summary This article introduces the concept of diplomatic peace. It starts by developing a heuristic frame for identifying understandings peace embraced actors we study. encompasses three faces — restraint, compromise and polylogue further differentiates different degrees each these (induced, co-operative categorical restraint; profitable, principled iterated compromise; extended, communal deliberative polylogue). Then, this is applied to key United Nations General Assembly declarations conventions that have passed unanimously since 1946. Studying how diplomats define yields remarkable results. Diplomats make far-reaching promises about kind they purport pursue, strongly endorsing compromises polylogues. The added value threefold: it systematically enquires into nexus diplomacy peace, develops multifaceted reminds scholars practitioners already existing are.
